| We met for breakfast at 6:30 a.m. There were 13 of us ready to travel to the Gilmore Car Museum located in Hickory Corners, Michigan. The drive was not without it's mechanical difficulties. Jim & Deb Frederick's beetle developed a main oil seal leak. Leaving it's mark on the pavement at the Shell station in Galesburg. It was determined safe to drive as long as the oil level was watched carefully(post trip note: The leak has been fixed. They lost about a quart of oil total. Good to hear all is okay). |
| The show was fantastic. We would like to make this an annual event for the MVWG. Thanks to the Michigan Vintage Volkswagen Club folks for spotting us as we pulled in. They parked us just across from there group in one fantastic spot. Just next to the GM Futureliner. The sun was bright and we were glad we brought the EZ-UP awning to provide some needed shade. |
| The show had something for everyone. From VW's (of course) to our brethren, the air cooled corvair club of Michigan which had some nice examples. Station wagons (or on vw speak Wagens) are becoming popular in the car collector hobby. The show also had a contingent of vintage trailers and there tow vehicles. Our Mark Hosaflook spent quite a bit of time checking these out. The Red Barn museums were open as well. The Tucker is one of the highlights of the displays. You can'' help but love a former air cooled engine. The Chrysler Airflow is a handsome automobile |
| Some of the hood ornaments on the classics are fantastic. This crystal eagle was on the hood of a 1912 Packard. Gilmore has an extensive collection of hood ornaments that need to be seen to be believed. Jim and Deb are holding the latest convert to the VW Hobby Shawn which is Don & Cathy Horners grandson. The GM Futureliner was a nice backdrop for some of the group that joined together for the first MVWG gathering. From Left to Right: John, Mark, Adam, Ron, Carole, John, Laurie, Ron.
